We specialize in offering
three kinds of barges:

Deck Barges

A barge with a flat deck that is used both for transportation and construction support. The flat deck is capable of holding thousands of tons of machinery, such as cranes and excavators. The deck also serves as a platform for holding oversized objects, such as bridge sections or personnel housing/offices. The inside of the deck barge is typically empty to allow for storage and/or counter-weighting. Glenn E. Daulton has a large fleet of deck barges available for rent or charter. Our Deck Barges carry an average of 1,600 – 1,800 tons per barge. Specifications for our barges are in the range of 195′ x 35′ x 10”. Always call us for complete details and specs.

Hopper Barges

Hopper Barges are similar to deck barges, except without a deck. They feature a large hopper, or cargo bin, for transporting bulk items, and are constructed with a double-hull to increase durability. The sides and bottom are separated from the hull by empty space allowing the barge to be strong yet light. These are often filled with bulk items like coal, sugar, timber products, rocks and other cargo. Hopper Barges are ideal for efficient transport of commodities. Spud (Crane) Barges

Our Spud Barges are available in several sizes starting at 110’ x 30’ x 7’ up to 180’ x 54’ x 12’, and are outfitted with 4 spud wells for flexible spud placement. All of our Spud Barges are capable of handling cranes with up to 200 ton lifting capacity or higher, and our Spud Barges are equipped with either mechanical or hydraulic winches to raise and lower spuds. We also offer “Drop Spuds” – this barge option is rented without winches to raise or lower spuds. With approximately 110+ barges in service on any given day, our rental operations are broadly focused. This means we provide barges and barge services across most of the US, and we are ready to provide you with the right barge, or barges, to fit your needs.

Even though we offer barges of differing widths and capacities, all of our barges are compatible with each other.

WHY RENT?

Many companies ask us why rental is better than just purchasing a barge outright and then selling it when the need for it has passed. While the benefits of short-term leasing of barges for a few months, or maybe a year, should be clearly obvious; most of our barge rentals are for 3-10 years. So, why does long-term leasing make sense over purchasing outright? Long-term leasing makes sense, because barges require maintenance and upkeep; they are exposed to the elements and even caustic/abrasive materials that may degrade the equipment quicker than expected; when not in use they must be fleeted safely; transporting barges from project to project is a hassle, and can be costly; and more. Most companies find it much more equitable to rent our barges rather than incur the expense and hassles associated with owning just one or a few barges of their own. …Still not sure if renting is the right choice? WHAT IS A BARGE FOR?

A barge is a non-self-propelled flat-bottom vessel used for transportation of products, materials, etc. on rivers and canals. They can be used to transport oversized products and materials, machinery, grain, coal, fuel, and many other commodities. From our experience, they can transport almost anything. But, hauling isn’t the only task barges can perform. Barges are used extensively in the construction industry for a variety of purposes, such as holding rocks on deck, moving large parts from one location to another, or serving as a mobile construction platform for on-the-water projects. Since barges are non self-propelled, they require tugboats or towboats to be moved around your project or from one location to another, and must be fleeted properly when not in use.
